Can you really install air conditioning in MY house?

March 9, 2017

Often a customer will say to us, “I’d love to have air conditioning, but it’s impossible to install a system in my home.” Actually, it may be easier than you think.

Of course, there’s always those big window AC units you find at the department store, and they do work fairly well….they’re just so noisy and ugly and dirty and smelly and inefficient, and they have to be carried UP to the window in the spring, and then back DOWN into storage in the fall, without making a wet nasty mess all over the floor (or straining your back muscles) in the process. And if you forget to move it, you have to deal with the cold draft all winter long.

There’s a better way. Advances in technology within the past couple of decades have created innovative ways to not only cool areas previously thought to be impossible to cool, but to do so efficiently, quietly, and unobtrusively. Meet the ductless air conditioner, sometimes called a ‘mini-split’. They’re quiet, capable, and efficient.

Here’s a short video from an installation on TV’s History Channel that shows one example of a mini-split being installed.

Fujitsu ductless air conditioning systems from Adirondack Mechanical eliminate the need for a basement or attic-located evaporator unit and bulky ductwork by using thin copper tubing running through a small 3 to 4-inch opening in the wall or ceiling, which it then covered or sealed. Refrigerant is cycled through these copper tubes from the outdoor condensing unit to the indoor unit, where the air is quietly distributed to the interior space. Even more remarkably, this same unit works in reverse in winter, absorbing heat from the outside air and moving it indoors to heat your home. The result? Efficient cooling and heating for year round, whole-house comfort. You can save energy by only cooling the rooms you want to cool. These systems are so efficient that you may qualify for an energy efficiency rebate from your power company, as well as possible federal tax credits. (Talk to your power company and tax preparer for details.) They are whisper quiet, so you can say goodbye to the rattletrap wall-shaking box in the window, too! There’s a Fujitsu system for every size room.

Summer will be here before you know it, so call Adirondack Mechanical for your free in-home estimate today, and you could be soon enjoying the benefits of quiet, clean, comfortable air conditioning in your ‘impossible to cool’ home!
